ARA Submits Comments on the Proposed Rule Modernizing the H-2A Visa Process

On Sept. 24, ARA submitted comments on the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) proposed rule modernizing the H-2A visa process. In the comments, ARA supports the DOL's effort to streamline the outdated visa process and create a more flexible program because the agriculture community is dependent on a sustainable workforce now more than ever.

The comments also push for the proposed rule to go further to allow all agricultural retailers to participate by broadening the definition of agriculture and expanding access to privately owned agribusinesses. Farmer cooperatives can utilize the program but privately owned agribusinesses cannot although these organizations provide the same functions.
