PHOENIX, Ariz. (November 29, 2017) -- AGCO Corporation named Wheat Growers’ Andrew Myburgh as their 2017 Operator of the Year. The award recognizes Myburgh’s skills, customer service and community involvement as well as overall dedication to the profession.
Myburgh and his RoGator 1300 have had another busy year, applying over 41,000 acres. In his ten years of service as a Wheat Growers Certified Applicator, he has applied an impressive 392,918 acres.
“Andrew is an outstanding applicator and takes great pride in his work,” Wheat Growers CEO Chris Pearson says. “He takes the time to get to know the producers and their land, and he treats it like his own. He knows you only get one chance, one pass, to get the job done right.”
One of the producers who knows and appreciates Myburgh’s work is Arne Svarstad of rural Aberdeen. “He is truly a professional applicator, and we are lucky to have him,” Svarstad says. “He is always looking for ways to be more efficient, has a great work ethic and is sensitive to application windows. He does his best and does it with honesty and integrity.”
Myburgh was born and raised in South Africa. He began working with Wheat Growers through a temporary foreign labor program, but fell in love with the United States and has been a permanent resident ever since. He lives on a small farm where he and his family share a love for land and livestock.
In addition to his regular work as an applicator, Myburgh is also a Wheat Growers Mentor Applicator, training new applicators. It’s work that includes onsite training, ride-alongs and being available when the trainees have questions.
“Andrew works to hone his own skills and also mentors other applicators,” Dick Siefkes, Wheat Growers Bath Location Manager, says. “He is a coach by nature and enjoys helping other applicators improve. He takes advantage of further training and educational opportunities for himself as well, such as the Certified Applicator Training and Dicamba Certification.”
Along with the award, AGCO presented Myburgh with the grand prize of a new Harley Davidson motorcycle during the 2017 Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) Conference & Expo on November 28-30 in Phoenix, Arizona. Myburgh thanks AGCO for the award...
