Jeff Sands joined ARA in March 2012 to serve as Director of Public Policy. He is responsible for ARA’s conservation, tax and trade, and energy issues as well as leading on sustainability and precision agriculture.
Before coming to ARA, he worked on agricultural issues effecting Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania in Congressman Tom Marino’s office. Sands was born and raised in Northeast Pennsylvania, but through his family also has strong ties to South Georgia.
Sands received his Masters in Public Administration at Valdosta State University in Georgia where he also received his undergraduate degree in Organizational Communication.
Sands also earned a degree in turf management at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., which he utilized in his former role as a golf course superintendent. The experiences in his role as a golf course manager gave him a first-hand perspective regarding many issues faced by ARA members and others in the agricultural community.
Sands is an avid golfer and Georgia Bulldog fan. He loves to travel back to Georgia and Pennsylvania as often as possible.
