ARA Co-signed a Support for CARS Act of 2023

Oct 19 2023

ARA co-signed a letter to Senators voicing support for the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act of 2023 because mandating a single-technology approach to reducing the carbon intensity of transportation is bad for consumers, farmers, energy independence and national security.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed standards for greenhouse gas emissions for cars and light-duty trucks would require nearly 67 percent of new vehicles to be battery electric vehicles by 2032.

The letter references 2020 research commissioned by ARA to show that a full internal combustion engine ban by 2035 or 2050 would reduce biofuel consumption by 90 percent, resulting in $27B in net U.S. farm income losses.

The CARS Act of 2023 would enhance competition among different vehicle technologies and fuels to reduce emissions.
