ARA AND TFI SUBMITTED COMMENTS ON THE HOS AG COMMODITY DEFINITION

ARA and TFI members depend on truck transportation for "just in time" delivery of farm supplies and other products and services; therefore, the jointly submitted comments recommend the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) be more flexible and general when pertaining to the listing of specific products constituting farm supplies.

Because of the diverse range of farm supplies and the ever-evolving agricultural industry, ARA and TFI included the following definition in a previous letter submitted as part of the Agricultural Transportation Working Group to cover current and future farm supplies while still meeting the needs of FMCSA from a regulatory enforcement perspective:

Farm supplies means agricultural input products directly related to the growing or harvesting of agricultural commodities and livestock feed at any time of the year.
