ARA Testified at Surface Transportation Board Hearing on Demurrage Charges

May 08 2019

ARA testified at a Surface Transportation Board hearing opposing excessive freight rates and demurrage charges because ag retailers, farmers and consumers will be impacted by higher costs. Agricultural retailers use railroads to transport crop input materials such as fertilizers and crop protection products because it's the safest, most secure and efficient mode of transportation of these chemicals.

ARA recommends several changes to demurrage and accessorial regulations in an effort to provide a more efficient rail system, commercial fairness, and to foster increased competition and accountability. Read ARA Senior Vice President of Public Policy & Counsel Richard Gupton's full testimony to learn more about how ARA is advocating reform that benefits ag retailers.
