ARA Communications Manager Introduction - Jacob Harper

Jul 20 2026

Howdy ARA! My name is Jacob Harper, and I am over the moon to introduce myself as the new Communications Manager for the Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA).

Coming from the Peach State and growing up on a farm, I have always been surrounded by agriculture – and am so excited to have the chance to contribute to ARA and its mission of serving the industry.

Recently, I graduated from The University of Georgia, where I studied Agricultural and Environmental Science Communication and Journalism. Additionally, I received a certificate in Public Affairs Communications through UGA’s Applied Politics Program.

During my educational journey in Athens, I served as an ambassador for both The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Each summer, I was afforded various opportunities to work and live in Washington, D.C. Previously, I served as a congressional agricultural fellow in the United States Senate and as a Food, Agriculture, and Nutrition intern with The Torrey Group. Both opportunities allowed me to absorb the necessary information to thrive in the agricultural policy space – and I cannot wait to bring those skills onto the team at ARA.

One of my favorite, well-known quotes of all time comes from none other than George Washington himself:

“I would rather be on my farm than emperor of the world.”

It has been my dream from a young age to assist in advancing the industry which I care so deeply about. Our first President's quote is simple, but it conveys so much about the power our industry holds in America and around the world. I am so excited to meet and connect with many of you and learn more about your stories! ARA is passionate about advancing the next generation of agricultural retailers, and I am ecstatic to contribute to that mission.
