ARA Leading in Carbon Credit Market Discussion

ARA’s newly formed Climate Stewardship/Carbon Credit Working Group met with staff of Senators Stabenow, D-Mich., and Braun, R-Ind., about S. 1251 - Growing Climate Solutions Act of 2021. The bill, which has undergone some positive changes since it’s re-introduction in the 117th Congress, was recently passed out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry favorably and without amendment.
The bipartisan legislation would authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to develop a program to reduce barriers to entry for farmers, ranchers, and private forest landowners in carbon credit markets and award growers for climate-smart practices.
ARA Working Group participants expressed their support for the bill, noting the pivotal role the ag retailer plays in the adoption and expansion of conservation practices and the importance of voluntary and incentive-based markets. Be on the lookout for a grassroots alert in the coming weeks.
