Beyond NPK: Closing the Micronutrient Gap

Micronutrients may represent a relatively small portion of a crop's fertility program, but their impact can be significant. Nutrients such as zinc, manganese, boron, copper, and iron support critical physiological processes throughout the growing season, yet deficiencies often go unnoticed until crop performance has already been negatively impacted.

While most nutrient management programs focus heavily on macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK), micronutrients have increasingly emerged as a significant factor limiting crop stability, efficiency, and profitability. Even well-structured fertility programs can limit crops' access to and absorption of micronutrients. At the same time, soil conditions, environmental factors, and intensive management practices can widen micronutrient gaps across production systems.
