USDA Tours New Landus Facility Built with Grant Funds
Jun 18 2024
Landus hosted U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Administrator for the Rural Business-Cooperative Service Betsy Dirksen Londrigan at its ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new facility in Boone, Iowa, on June 13.
Londrigan highlighted the agency's investment in the bioeconomy because in June 2023, Landus received a $4,885,988 grant from USDA to offset costs to build the greenfield fertilizer manufacturing and repackaging facility in Boone County. The facility will manufacture a foliar, slow-release nitrogen product to decrease in-ground nitrogen application rates and increase overall nitrogen efficiency in growing corn.
The USDA grant to Landus in 2023 was made through the Fertilizer Production Expansion Program (FPEP), which provides grants to independent business owners to use to modernize equipment, adopt new technologies, build production plants, and more.
The Administration committed up to $900 million through the Commodity Credit Corporation for FPEP, which is part of a broader effort to help producers boost domestic production.
